The Hourglass

One of my first purchases in IKEA Philippines is a medium-sized hourglass.  It reminded me of my toy during my childhood days given by my mom which is a smaller version almost a thumb size.

I remember the color of the sand is pink and it takes only a few minutes to empty the upper half of the hourglass. For some, it is a useless piece but I like it so much, though I can’t explain why when I was little.

Now when I bought this new one, I kind of reflected on why I like hourglasses. It gives me a sense of zen energy by just watching the bits and pieces of sand flowing in the narrowest portion of the hourglass. The essence of time is captured, indeed it is scarce, delicate, and very personal to witness the passage of every second of life.

It is a part of my display cabinet that keeps on reminding me that time is gold. Every fraction of time should be valued and cherished.

As the famous Benjamin Franklin once said, “Lost time is never found again”…
