Search

Once you contribute or upload a document, it is important to fill in the document properties or metadata to improve the ranking of your documents.

You can also use certain symbols or operators to refine or extend your search results.

Wildcard symbol *

Use the asterisk (*) symbol in order to widen or expand your search results

Examples: admin* budget* prod*

 

Quotes symbol “ ”

Use this to find exact words or phrases.

Examples: “HR budget” “deployment” “production server”

 

Boolean operators: OR, AND, +, –

OR: Extend the search results to include a specified term.

NOT: Refine the search results to include a specified term.

AND: Refine the search results to include a specified term.

Examples: HR OR Talent production NOT test SharePoint AND server

 

Properties / Metadata

SharePoint by default includes metadata such as title, author, created, last modified date.

Examples:

  • author: Lagundi
  • filename: project
  • title: HR*
  • created: < 7/02/2019
  • title <> production
  • modified >= 9/02/2017
  • filetype: docx
