Think Like An Ant

In our present situation, the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic makes a lot of people suffer. Therefore, many of us feel vulnerable. Since the start of this critical situation, we have been worried about the many uncertainties facing us. World leaders from different parts of the globe try their best to provide the needs of their people. Likewise, people of different nationalities give a helping hand.

Ant fable

Furthermore, as we go through this ordeal, we learn a lot. We can reflect on our faults and shortcomings. We committed mistakes, we think of better ways to resolve them. Also, we know it is not too late to change. Looking back, we can even compare ourselves to the characters in a fable, “The Ant and the Grasshopper.” Which character do you play in this world?

Though the ant is small, we can indeed learn a few life lessons from it.

  • The ant saves for the rainy days, unlike the grasshopper that keeps on wasting time all day long. Think about this: An ant works every day, carrying food more than 10-50 times its body weight. The ant does not stop working to prepare for the winter. It shows that if you want to succeed, you should work your way up. Work today and reap the benefits tomorrow. If not, you'll likely end up like the grasshopper, ill-prepared and a liability to those who are doing their best to make their lives better.
  • Ants teach us to be brave. Humans are more than 10 times the size of an ant, but it seems the ant is way braver than us. Ants continuously work and seek food no matter how challenging the course is for them. With our strength, we can easily squash an ant or do other things with it. However, the ant does not cower. How about us?
  • Ants teach us to focus on our goals. Imagine seeing ants going toward a bag of sugar, if you try blocking their path, they will merely move around it. They will still go ahead to their destination. Try putting another obstacle again. You'll see they will take another detour and march to where they are heading. We should do the same. Problems arise, difficulties may get in our way, but we should never give up. We should continue to strive and reach our purpose. What we are experiencing today are little diversions, so we must remain steadfast. Focus and move forward.
  • Ants teach us the value of teamwork. Ants work together to fulfill their goals. They know they can do more by working as a team than by doing it alone. Therefore, for us to attain our dreams, we must align ourselves with others. We should learn to work hand in hand with everyone to achieve the next level. In our present problem, we should work with the government to end this pandemic. Cooperate instead of being hard-headed.
  • Ants are ingenious builders. They carry out their jobs no matter how complex home systems and underground tunnels are. We can do that too. Humans are intelligent. We are ingenious beings who should not rely on the help of the government all the time. Let us be like the ants that when work must be done, they do it themselves. Let us not get tired of trying and doing things right.

Go to the ant thou sluggard. Consider its ways and be wise.

Proverbs 6:6

Altogether, the ants remind us of the essence of planning and having good foresight, especially during challenging times. Now is the time to work together, regardless of our differences. Let us work for the common good.
